Marketing is elementary
The girls had a concert last night. Our district is celebrating 100 years and for their part, our elementary school had the kids sing songs they’ve been learning as part of the district’s “healthy kids” curriculum. They have a guy who does assemblies all year and teaches songs with topics like taking good care of your body, being a true friend, or staying away from strangers. My girls enjoy it and they love to come home and sing the new songs for me. The concert was relatively fun, considering it was a bunch of elementary school kids we didn’t know. Then the other shoe dropped. The songwriter, the principal, and the assistant principal all gave little speeches at the end focusing on how great this music is and don’t forget to buy your copies of the cd in the lobby on the way out tonight! At a special discount! Three for only $30! Do it for the kids! So the whole thing ended up feeling less like a concert and more like an excuse to sell cds. And how exactly did the “100 Years” tie in? Blargh. Good times - homemade play dough is always a good idea.

That guy was so creepy! On the couch? Gross.
Your girls are so cute. I’ve never made homeade play dough. I have no idea why not. It’s just flour, water and … baking soda, right? Or cream of tartar? See, this is why…

Thanks Kris!
Here’s a playdough recipe we love…
1 c. water, colored with food coloring of your choice
1 c. flour
2 Tbs. vegetable oil
1/2 c. salt
2 Tbs. cream of tartar
Combine ingredients and cook in a saucepan over medium heat until mixture pulls away from the pan. Stir constantly while cooking with a wooden spoon or wire whip. Do not overcook. Knead while warm until playdough reaches an elastic consistency. Store in plastic bags in the refrigerator.
I’ve also tried edible varities made with peanut butter, but I can’t recommend them. For one, it’s greasy and messy and for another, my kids’ hands aren’t always the cleanest when they’re playing or they drop some on the floor - I don’t think I WANT them eating it anyway!

Great recipe! I have no idea if my 17-month-old is ready to play with this stuff, but I had fun making it, and this is the best recipe I’ve found so far.
thanks!!
