We are family??
Mia and I were hanging out yesterday and we got to talking about our (maybe) move. The girls know there’s a chance we could be moving and they’re actually excited about it, mostly because our house is a rambler and they really, really want a house with an upstairs. Moving would not be my favorite thing to do, but I think I could adjust to it pretty well. Dan, however, does not want to move at all. So, we were talking… Mia: Why doesn’t Daddy want to move? Me: He likes his job and he likes our house and if we move, he has to change both of those. Mia: Well, maybe Daddy can stay here and just you and me and Amy can move. Me: What would we do for a daddy then? Mia: (brightly) You could just marry a new boy, one who already lives where we’re moving! Uh…okay. I had no idea she regarded Dan as expendable but it certainly made me laugh. But don’t worry about him, she followed up shortly after with a plan that he would have to marry a new girl, so he wouldn’t be lonely. No word yet on whether he would have to get some new kids too. Maybe she’s saving that for later.

I love those conversations.
We all know, in theory, that there’s a whole other world inside our kids’ heads that we can only glimpse. But then, every once in a while, you get the feeling that it’s actually more like a parallel universe in there…!
