Mister Man

We had our 20-week ultrasound yesterday — it’s a boy! I sometimes have a hard time seeing details on an ultrasound, but not this time. There’s no question those were some little boy parts. Apparently the baby isn’t at all shy about letting it all hang out (just like his dad, *rim shot*).

I admit, I’m struggling a little to wrap my mind around this concept. I’ve been used to having a family of girls for so long that it seems weird we are even capable of producing a boy, let alone the idea that there actually is one who will be living here pretty soon. I’m a tutu, dress-up, sequin kind of mom, how am I going to adjust to being a rock, lizard, Spiderman kind of mom?

The girls came with us to the ultrasound and they thought it was hilarious that they could see the baby move on the screen at the same time I could feel it, I mean him, kick. Mia was a little disappointed, she was really hoping for another sister, but she’ll be fine. Actually seeing the baby made them more excited and they can’t believe there are still 20 whole more weeks to wait.

Speaking of the girls, they’ve been out of school since before Christmas and this is their last week off-track. We seem to follow a pretty set pattern when we go off-track, the first week we sleep in and are lazy all day, the second week we try to go on a bunch of outings and do fun activities, and by the third week we’re starting to drive each other crazy and begin to look forward to school starting again. Monday morning we officially entered the annoying-the-crap-out-of-each-other phase of this schedule, so I decided we needed a craft. Behold…felt cakes.

We got the patterns from Craftster and the girls spent all day stitching them together. I thought they’d get bored and dump them on me to finish, but they both stuck with it, even though it took waaaay longer than I’d anticipated. It was fun though and had the desired effect, no more fighting!
