Birthday Girl

Today Mia is 7!

Well, that went fast. Not only her first 7 years, but I distinctly remember being seven-years-old myself and frankly, it doesn’t feel all that long ago. But it was. Holy cow, I’m getting old.

This is the girl that has a hard time waking up but today she was wide awake at 6:15 and so excited she could barely eat. I have to make the requested heart-shaped chocolate cake and get her presents wrapped while she’s at school. She’s getting a new bike, some books, and a couple of toys. We’re having a party with just us tonight and then on Sunday the grandparents and aunts/uncles/cousins are coming for an extended family party. No friend birthday party this year, we do those every other year.

Seven years ago right now I was in the hospital and the nurses were waking me up after only three hours of sleep. We had to go in the night before because I hadn’t been dilating and the medicine to help that had to be given in advance. Just when they’d get a room for us, someone else would come in already in full labor and we’d have to wait. We were in the waiting room almost six hours - and then they came by at 7:00 to break my water and start the pitocin. Ugh!

Mia was born around 11 a.m. She refused to cry, which caused some initial concern, but eventually we discovered that’s just Mia. She also insisted on stretching out and was always rigid and straight-legged, not the cuddly little ball o’baby Amy was. Mia had Dan’s exact feet, only in miniature and not as hairy; it took her several months to grow in to her big toes.

She’s a great kid and I can’t imagine life without her. She’s funny, imaginative, confident, smart, and her smile is like sunshine. Everyone who knows her loves her. She’s a great friend and I know she’ll be a wonderful big sister.

Happy birthday, sweet girl! I love you!!
