Hello, I have a son!

Meet Adam!!!

Born at 5:45 a.m. on May 18, 2007

He’s here - a whole three weeks before his due date. Even now I can’t believe it, everything seems a bit surreal - even though the waking up five times a night is painfully familiar.

I woke up on the 17th and felt a bit strange. I had a doctor’s appointment scheduled for that day so I got the girls off to school and even worked for a few hours. When I got to the doctor that afternoon, she did a quick check and told me to go to the hospital. I couldn’t believe it! Here it was, Mia’s birthday, the one day we were really hoping to avoid. Besides, my babies are induced, I never just go into labor. It didn’t seem possible.

I was afraid Dan would miss it since Mia’s birth took only about three hours and he had to go home from work, pack, and then meet me at the hospital, which was about 30 minutes from home. I needn’t have worried, the boy took his time. I checked into the hospital at 2:00 Thursday afternoon and he wasn’t born until almost 6:00 the following morning - almost 16 hours of labor. We had Mia’s birthday party at the hospital, she opened presents while I had contractions. I was afraid she’d be bummed about her birthday being ruined, but she was so excited for the baby she didn’t care. And we made a big fuss over her so she had a good time.

Labor was a bit scary. My blood pressure kept plummeting and I’d pass out, the nurse would run in and give me a shot of Ephedrine to bring me back around, and we’d start the whole process over again. I have never passed out before, it was all very strange and ookey and I kept wondering if I’d wake up the next time to find they’d had to do a C-section. But, things worked out and everyone is healthy and happy and we have our boy. He’s very tiny, 6 pounds, 5 ounces and 18 inches long. We brought him home yesterday.

A son! I can’t believe I was ever a little bit disappointed at the ultrasound when we learned he wasn’t a girl. He is so tiny and perfect and wonderful. He squeaks and mews like a kitten, sleeps a lot, and has taken to nursing with gusto. His big sisters are completely in love and now live to serve him.

I am very blessed.
