Time to Party!

We’re having Amy’s ninth birthday party this Saturday. But wasn’t her birthday way back in July?, you ask. Why yes it was, I reply. (And also, shut up.) We decided to wait a few weeks before having the party so she could get to know some girls in her class and invite them. Her best friends seem to drop like flies so I’m always on the lookout for fresh blood. Eww. That was a little macabre when applied to nine-year-olds. Noted.

Let me rephrase that. Her best friend has moved away every year since Kindergarten so we are always looking for someone to be the next best friend. And parties are great for bonding! Or so I’ve been told.

This year the theme is Rock Star, which you must say using capital letters. We found the perfect invitations - light blue and zebra print with rhinestones and little electric guitar stickers. Apparently they are a hit because our acceptance rate is almost 100% and I have heard reports that there is a buzz going around about the party.

Great, pressure.

Amy plans to decorate the living room like a stage with lots of crepe paper and foil stars. We’ll have pizza and a movie, then karaoke, followed by a game Amy has invented called “Pin the Guitar on the Rock Star” - which is exactly what you’re thinking it is, and which she didn’t so much invent as borrow and tweak, and which you must also use title caps when discussing. Instead of cake and ice cream we’re doing a chocolate fountain with fruit, marshmallows, and gummy worms, so everything will gooey.

Costumes are optional and since I am a tad maniacal, I’m sewing outfits for both my girls. They designed them together - pants made from a super sparkley material, t-shirts with shimmery stars, and maybe even a shrug from the same sparkley stuff as the pants depending on how fast I am and how good I was at buying enough fabric. Personally I think their look is more Sasha Cohen than Gwen Stefani, but that’s a good thing.

It should be fun, maybe I’ll even post pictures. Yeah, yeah, I know I keep saying that.
