The bloggy meme
Artsy-crafty babe has a new meme up and I never can resist a good meme. So here it goes… 1. Do you promote your blog? Not too much. I link to it when I post on Craftster and a few other places but that’s it. 2. How often do you check hits? A couple of times a week. The only really weird search phrase I’ve ever had was “sewing a pee pad in my pants.” Which, ???. 3. Do you stick to one topic? I do tend to stick pretty closely to a few topics - kids and family, everyday life, sewing projects, and a smattering of whining. Because that’ s what I do, I sew and then I whine. I tend to stay away from controversial topics like religion and politics. People who know me in real life know that I definitely have strong opinions on both and will happily spends hours discussing and debating different viewpoints. I don’t do it here because I think lots of one-sided ranting from me is boring. I also believe people search for that kind of thing to be deliberately combative and I don’t need that. 4. Who knows that you have a blog? My friends and family have known about my blog for a while but they only started reading it a few months ago (Hi mom! *waves*). Also my husband’s co-workers logged in to see the pictures of Dan’s disastrous haircut and I think they still read it occasionally. They’re the ones waiting for the air conditioning story — I know! I know! I’ll get it eventually. 5. How many blogs do you read? I tend to be pretty strict with my blog intake. I would sit and read all day if I didn’t reign myself in so currently I only read about a dozen blogs with any regularity, those listed in my blogroll and a few others. 6. Are you a fast reader? Yes. 7. Do you customize your blog or do anything technical? I can barely figure out how to post pictures or change my posting options as it is. I don’t need anything else to fret over. 8. Do you blog anonymously? Somewhat. I use my family’s real names but I’ve never revealed my own real name. I also obscure the faces of my family members, everyone but Adam. I continue to debate this with myself because I think blurring out their faces makes it less fun for you, but I do worry about safety. I don’t worry about Adam so much yet because he’s with me 24/7 and all babies kind of look alike but as he gets older, I’ll start blurring out his face too. Part of me thinks I’m being cynical and overly-cautious and a little arrogant to think that my tiny little corner of cyberspace could be of interest to anyone but me. But then the other part of me won’t stop with the “what ifs” and I can’t bring myself to ignore that. 9. To what extent do you censor yourself? I do censor myself some. I stay away from controversy and I don’t give details on my marriage or some other areas of my life. I was afraid I’d start censoring myself even more when my family started reading, but I really haven’t too much. 10. The best thing about blogging? You people! I love having this little knot of readers throughout the world, it’s fun to check stats and see who has visited and from where. It makes me feel I’ve expanded my horizons, even if only a little. So, that’s it. I’d love to read your version so if you participate, please post a link in the comments so we can visit you.
