In the spirit of Spirit Day

Today is Spirit Day at the elementary school and they usually have some kind of theme. Today it was Dress Like a Teacher.

Ummmm - what?

This concept may have worked back in my day when teachers wore polyester separates, sensible shoes, and bifocals on chains around their necks. But today’s teachers are younger and every time I’ve been at the school, the teachers are dressed pretty much like their students with maybe a little more khaki and a little less denim. So really the theme could be interpreted as Dress for Company. How fun is that?

After some discussion, my girls decided to wear their nicest school clothes and we pulled their hair up and stuck pencils through their buns. A rather feeble attempt, yes, but at drop off this morning I noticed that only a few kids had even tried to look at all teacherish.

I imagine this theme was probably an effort to appease parents on the opposite end of my spectrum who dread the dress-up days and who are not crazy enough to stay up all night sewing poodle skirts. But still, if it’s going to be this boring why even bother?

**Edited to add - if you’re reading this you were obviously willing to endure the wait for the site to load. I’m not sure why everything is so sluggish at the moment. Thanks for your patience.

I love dress up days. Everyone at school expects me to do something big for them now too. My favorites are hat days, where I’ve taken to wearing every hat I own at the same time.

Hopefully, I’ve fixed the sluggishness. Thank YOU for YOUR patience, Laylabean.
