Ask me what I’m doing tonight
I am waiting up for my oldest to come home from a party. “But she’s only nine,” you say. “Isn’t this starting a bit early?” Why yes, yes it is. It’s actually a slumber party for one of Amy’s classmates but since we don’t allow sleepovers unless the family is one we know really well, she’s having a late-over. I’m expecting her around 11. Our no-sleepover policy has been in effect for a while but this is the first time we’ve had to use it. I thought Amy would be upset, but she just shrugged and nodded when I reminded her about the rule. It turns out that most of the other girls have the same situation. It’s a strange feeling to be waiting at home while your child is out partying into the night. Granted, this party consists mainly of baking cookies and drooling over High School Musical but still, it’s a hint of things to come and I’m not sure how I feel about that.

I thought I was the only one who had that rule! We decided that at the age 10 they could have sleep overs IF we knew the family. It amazes me how 5 and 6 yearolds have sleep overs. I just don’t want the hassle with four kids wanting a sleep over, suddenly our house hold grows to 10!

That’s a fantastic rule!!
One of the moms from KJ’s preschool class mentioned having him sleep over recently, which made me cringe to no end because he JUST TURNED FIVE. I changed the subject, not wanting to be rude but definitely not willing to agree to one. Kevin and I will talk about what we think the appropriate age is, and then set a rule.
Thanks for posting this!!

My kids are all under six but I’m definitely not doing sleepovers either. I only ever got into trouble with a capital T. Plus I don’t trust other parents. I’m totally with you on this one!

High School Musical! Followed by High School Musical 2, I’m sure…
