Because I need something other than yesterday’s post on the front page

I know it might seem strange to expect someone who wants money from you to simply go away if enough time has passed, especially when it’s this much money. Obviously everything is more complicated than I’ve said here (or even here) but we did have reason to believe the bank might let the matter drop, mainly because the property was sold several months ago and they were paid a big chunk of what was owed.

Added to that, we had submitted an appraisal of the property and some other evidence that cast serious doubts on their claim that we owed them any money at all. So we had hoped that the stone silence after we sent the appraisal meant they had decided we weren’t worth the time and they’d let the case expire.

Yeah, I know, dumb us.

What we forgot is that this is a corporation, with an entire legal division dedicated to doing exactly what they’re doing - finding ways to wiggle out of their responsibility, spinning things in their favor, and basically making life miserable for those they’re up against. They do this for a living and are obviously willing to pour unlimited time and money into destroying us. They don’t care if they spend double what they get back, just as long as they can slap an “Account Recovered” label next to our name on the P&L sheets.

It’s been a tough two years and an even tougher 24 hours. I have been trying not to visit that “If Only” place in my head where my hindsight shows me mistakes we made that brought us to this point. There were things we should have done differently but it is what it is and there’s nothing I can do to change it now. The only thing I can do is accept it with as much grace and dignity as possible, get ready to move past it, and not let it ruin Christmas.

So on that note, it’s time for a gratitude list (not really in order):

  • My family, my faith, and my freedom
  • My children are healthy
  • At least I have a house to sell, there’s a way to pay this huge debt
  • My girls make up silly games
  • Adam has chubby thighs and laughs at almost anything
  • I know how to sew
  • We had cake after dinner tonight
  • It’s snowing
  • I have new books from the library
  • All my siblings will be home for Christmas
  • Mia recites segments of cartoons or commercials and she does the voices, which is hilarious
  • I’m wearing my favorite sweatshirt
  • I have writing work
  • My husband knows how to fix things when they break
  • The neighbor’s dogs are quiet
  • Project Runway is back
  • I have a blog and there are people who read it
  • The kids are all in bed, asleep
  • And of course…New Theme! Yea or Nay? What say ye?

I like the blue template! Bummer about the bank, it must be so stressful to have that hanging over you. Bite the baby’s chunky arms. That should make you feel better. ; )

So sorry. Stoopid bank. Stoopid scammers.

YES on the theme. I like it a lot.

There really isn’t anything one can say that will make this easier. It’s a terrible thing that someone else can be so dishonest and you end up paying the hefty price. Where is the justice? Whatever you decide to do, know that you have family that loves you and we are praying for the best outcome possible for you and your family.

I love your new look! So fresh (and so clean clean).

On a more solemn note, I’m so sorry for what you guys are going through. I had no idea, and I can’t imagine the terrible stress you must feel. Take it one step at a time, and know that you will make it through this, somehow.

    Thinking of you…
