I lovey-dovey this new (not mine) stove that is sitting in this (soon to be not mine) kitchen

Well…yes, we’re moving. Dan and I came to the decision last week after lots of prayer and discussion and research and thought. It seems the only sensible thing to do at this point. The bank still refuses to settle and despite almost no action in the lawsuit, we have a mild coronary every month when we get the bill from our lawyers. I’ve never paid so much for stamps in my life.

So our costs, which we were struggling to pay already, keep going up and a bit of the equity from our house would help ease that burden a lot. But the main reason is that while we sit around waiting for someone to get off their butt and make a bloody decision already, our kids are getting older. We need to get out of this perpetual state of limbo and be somewhere that feels permanent where they can put down roots, make friends, and have some stability.

We met with a realtor last night and he recommended a sale price that was pretty close to what we had expected. It’s not as low as we were fearing, but still a big slide from where we could have listed a few years ago. (Bummer) We didn’t sign with him yet but I’m 95% sure we will. Two years ago I would probably have tried to sell it myself, but I think with the market like it is now, he’ll more than earn his commission - and I won’t have to field a million phone calls from desperate agents looking for business.

But about the stove…we had always planned to replace the cheapish white appliances that came with the house with better versions in black. We did the microwave and the dishwasher when we moved in and then Fraudgate 2005 hit and we haven’t had any extra money since. In a buyer’s market we know we have to do something to stand out and so we “bought” (Thanks Visa!) a new stove and refrigerator last Saturday. It’s an improvement, don’t you think?

The before shot:

And after (the hey did you know black is really hard to photograph? version):

I know, it would look better if we’d been able to do the granite counter tops like we originally planned, but hopefully this will be enough because granite = too expensive right now.

The fridge is okay, not what I’d pick if I were staying, but the stove is excellent. I love the flat top and the fact that I don’t have to scrub burner pans any more. Like I ever did that anyway. So really I love the fact that I don’t have to feel guilty about not scrubbing the burner pans anymore.

My strategy to make sure I don’t get too attached entails eating out a lot.

The black appliances look awesome. I’m sorry to hear that you will move after all…we liked having you close by. Have you decided where you will go?

Wow very impressive! Does that mean you sell the fridge with the house? Around here only the stove and dishwasher would be counted as ‘chattels’, and you would take the fridge and microwave with you!

The new appliances look fantastic. I’m so sorry you guys have to move, and that you are still knee-deep in this mess. I hope that the smoke begins to clear soon for you guys. I can’t imagine what you must be going through.

Piano mom - we haven’t decided yet. We have several options and we’re still trying to figure out what we really want.

Jac - yes, we’ll list the fridge as an inclusion with the house. Normally you don’t around here either but we figure it would be a good buyer incentive. Look! New fridge!

Molly - thanks for your kind words. It sucks, but it could be worse. As I’m sure you know, you’ve had your own real estate yuckiness!

Well, you know I’m feeling you…SO MUCH. And hey, thank you SO MUCH for your sweet and kind comment over on my blog. I feel so blessed right now, in spite of everything, because you are all so freaking kind. Really, thank you…
