Subconsious Smackdown

Do you ever have those dreams where you’re telling a joke and it’s the funniest joke ever? And you have a large, appreciative audience and you know that when you reach the punchline they will almost die laughing and will shower you with praise and currency because you are so hilarious. And they might even declare you to be the funniest person on the planet - your joke is that good. And even though you never really thought about it before, suddenly you really, really want to be the funniest person on the planet, suddenly it’s the most important thing ever.

So you’re telling the joke but halfway through you realize you’ve forgotten the punchline. And everyone is watching you expectantly, waiting, so you start to improvise and make the setup way more complicated and detailed than it needs to be. And while you’re doing this you notice that your audience’s smiles of anticipation have started to turn into grimaces of annoyance and you know they’re wondering why this joke is so long and why can’t you just get to the point already? And you know your status as the funniest person on the planet is in jeopardy as you prattle on and on while desperately searching your memory for the punchline. But it’s not there.

And finally you realize that you’re never going to get to the end because guess what? This is a dream and your subconscious is telling this joke. And frankly, your subconscious isn’t all that funny and it cannot come up with a punchline.

And then you wake up and you’re mad at your brain for putting you through all that in the first place. So you write a post that is almost exactly like your dream and you’re pretty sure your readers have been wondering why this post is so long and why can’t you just get to the point already?

Must be a shared brain thing? I have variations of this dream on a somewhat regular basis. Then I realize that it’s not a dream, but that it’s really happening.

    You crack me up. :)

  3. Mr. Me Says:

Who? Me? Or Laylabean? Or both? WHO cracks you up? WHO???
