My kids are wannabe movie stars
Molly has been talking a lot about baby names lately, as you do when you’re pregnant. Last week she asked why those of us with children chose the names we did. I started to post a comment and then it turned into a big long explanation - because seriously? Doesn’t everything with me turn into a big long explanation? - so I figured I may as well post it here instead of hogging Molly’s comments. I have a confession. My kids are all named after movie/TV characters. Gee, influenced by media much? It’s not quite as bad as it sounds. While I was pregnant with each one of them, I became obsessed with a certain TV show or movie and absolutely couldn’t stop thinking about it. I wouldn’t even really watch the show but the lines, the scenarios, and the main characters were constantly running through my head. Amy is named after a TV show that was popular in the 90s and Mia is from a 1995 movie. Adam’s name comes from another movie. (This would be easier to write if I could tell you the shows, but I recently gave the kids blog names and so you’ll just have to wonder.) We had a couple of names picked out for each child and we didn’t decide for sure until after they were born. Once we saw the girls we knew exactly which name was theirs, no question. Adam was harder. He was Baby Boy ____[our last name]____ until right before we left the hospital. I was 95% sure I liked Adam, but Dan was a little more hesitant. A few hours before we were supposed to be discharged, I was feeding the baby and he was struggling a little. Dan was sitting across the room in that stupor you get when it’s been three days and lots of stress with hardly any sleep. Adam was fussing a little and without even thinking Dan said, “Keep going, Adam, you can do it.” [pause] “Did I just call him Adam?” That pretty much decided it for both of us, the name just fit. And, once I’d given them their movie star names, my obsession with the movie/TV show went away. In fact, I don’t think I’ve seen an episode of the show or watched the movies since. So I guess it was meant to be with all of them. That or I’m waaaay too susceptible to outside influences. Now I have to go have a 7-Up and a Tylenol and then change into my Martha Stewart pajamas, apply my Olay moisturizer, and brush my teeth with Crest before I go to sleep on my genuine Serta mattress. Bye!

You have me curious… And since I know their non-blog names, I’m trying to figure out which stars they were named after.
I’ll have to ponder this.
